Sub Genres

  • Black/Death – raw, heavy, blast-beats, slow+fast strumming, mid tempo, low pitched vocals
  • Black/Thrash – raw, fast strumming, fast tempo, basic song structure, high pitched vocals
  •  Black/Speed – early black metal vibe, mid tempo, basic song structure, solos, NWOBHM elements, stressed or high pitched vocals
  •  DSBM – raw, very dark, atmospheric, mid tempo, melodic, very high pitched haunting vocals, also sometimes containing Post-Rock elements
 

Hardcore

Sub Genres

  • Grindcore – the evolution of crust punk combining raw metallic riffs, blast beats, fast tempo, short songs, and extreme vocals frequently featuring both high pitched and grunts.
  • Power-Violence – a noisy and dissonant off shoot of hardcore punk that is played at insane speeds, has constant tempo changes, blast beats and very harsh vocals. A more traditional variant of Hardcore than Grindcore.
